The Symbian Lesson

In the SofSol office there is a very friendly rivalry between the Android and Apple fanboys. I say friendly because no one really cares (Android Rules!!!). This did lead to an interesting article being shared which demonstrated a very different point – don’t dismiss potentially disruptive technologies. The article was published by Engadget in 2007 and covers how Symbian, Nokia, Microsoft and Apple felt about the then very immature Android mobile platform. Ten years on we know how well that went for 3 out of 4 of them. The point though is that it isn’t wise to dismiss something new out of hand, regardless of how you feel personally. In a few years it may turn your world upside down. Always be looking forward and be prepared to adapt. No one wants to end up like Symbian.
